Assignment 1
DESIGN ELEMENTS
Individual Work
This module was to help us promote our identifying on basic design elements, application to the understanding of basic design elements and to understand the transformation from 2-dimensional form to 3-dimensional form.
Starting from the first task of the project, the task required us to find inspirations of designs that we like from the interior of any buildings. Then, pin point out the structure "dots" that are obviously seen and link it in a pattern "according" to the logic arrangement of the points then it will form different design of shapes.
After that, by using the design of the inspirations given from previous, a few mockup models were created not only based on the design inspirations but also collaborating parts from different ideas to form another model.
Following that, once the mockup 2 model was approved, solid and louvert planes were then introduced to the mock up model for finalising on the shadow casting effect for final presentation model.
Once done, the final model was built and presented to the people.
TGC Reflection
This project made me realised that how important was transformation of the model from 2d to 3d form where it is quite a hard technique to learn and master for building the models.
Assignment 2
DESIGN Principles
Group Work
This module was to help us promote our identifying on basic design elements, application to the understanding of basic design elements and to understand the transformation from 2-dimensional form to 3-dimensional form. Other than that, it was to help us understand manipulation of forms through exploration of design principles in architecture and spatial design.
From the start, each off the group members will need to choose 1 design principle that was provided in the assignment brief and it came out that out group had RYTHM, UNITY, CONTRAST and EMPHASIS.
Each of us were then required to create 2 mockup models sketch ideas and show it to our tutor. Once the ideas were approved then we proceeded in making out our own mockup models.
After that, all of us discussed whether to choose which mockup model as 1 of the design parts of our final model. We combined all our design models into our final model parts and we eventually came up with an idea that " why don't we flip our main base of our model upside down and make the surroundings bloom like a flower?" We all agreed to that idea and immediately our model was different and interesting compared to the previous plain one.
Finally, we spray painted the parts with different colours to create better visual quality for our model and it came out that flipping the main base was a pretty decent choice for us.
TGC Reflection
This project made me understood that apart from model making throughout the whole process, good quality of communication was also a huge plamaking of the process where you can easily gather your group members and all of you can agree to any decisions made easily and efficiently.
Assignment 3
Form manipulation and spatial design
Individual Work
This project was to require us to apply the knowledge of design principle, formal organization, and variation to design
ideas, display creativity throughout design process and come out with innovative design solution, showing anthropometrics and ergonomics understanding in personal space and to illustrate and present ideas with proper scale and proportion using the right tools and
technique.
TGC Reflection
Apart from the space making of the presentation model, it made me realised that precise drawing skills were one of the difficult parts that i can ever master in it and it always needed a lot of progress going on and retry.
Module Reflection
About this module, ITSD (Introduction to spatial designs), it is a great module for students to really learn how to build actual models from scratch and it is very fun at the same time, good module.
